Costa Rica's Natural Wonders Seduce Couples Looking for Unconventional Destination Weddings and Honeymoons

According to the multiplatform wedding resource, TheKnot.com, 24 percent of couples opt for destination weddings. With the average wedding cost at just over $31,000, many couples forgo the traditional ceremony at home altogether; instead, they favor a more intimate celebration in a destination they love, many times at a fraction of the cost. With its diverse landscapes that go from tropical rainforests to active volcanoes and cascading waterfalls, Costa Rica offers couples a prime destination for weddings and honeymoons with a wide range of accommodations and activities for adventure and relaxation.

WeddingWith 28 national parks, the country’s lush terrains and natural wonders provide unlimited backdrops, allowing couples to think outside the box when choosing the location of the ceremony.

“More brides and grooms have expressed interest in celebrating their wedding at unusual places,” said Larissa Banting, president of the Costa Rica Destination Weddings Association. “Twenty-five percent of couples who have reached out to our team of experts opt out of having the ceremony at the beach. Instead, they request volcanic backdrops or lush, green landscapes that characterize our beautiful country.”

Unique, natural settings are abundant and include impressive waterfalls like those found at La Paz Waterfall, an hour away from San Jose. For a more unconventional setting, couples can say “I do” with a majestic volcano like the Arenal, one of Costa Rica’s most visited volcanoes, as a backdrop.

From five-star resorts located deep within the rainforest to intimate villas found on secluded beaches, Costa Rica offers numerous lodging options for couples and their guests. Various hotels throughout the country also offer wedding and honeymoon packages, as well as on-site wedding coordinators to help ease the planning process.

No destination wedding can be complete without fun group activities that allow couples and their guests to bond and enjoy themselves while exploring the destination. The country offers a host of activities to create truly memorable experiences, ranging from zip lining in the rainforest to surfing and whale watching on the Pacific Ocean or the Caribbean Sea.

After the wedding, couples looking to start their life together can do as little or as much as they like. Adventure seekers can hike their way up to imposing volcanoes, rappel down waterfalls or scuba dive in the country’s bio-rich waters. For some R&R, newlyweds can take advantage of the country’s natural wonders and wellness-related activities, ranging from luxurious spa treatments to natural hot springs as they reminisce on their wedding day.
